LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Lauren Triplett connected on her fourth game-winning goal of the season as the No. 24 Bellarmine Women's Soccer Team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis 1-0 in double overtime on Friday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Triplett's goal came in the 103rd minute from just outside the box. Caitlin Duffy's pass from midfield into Triplet earned the junior midfielder her first assist of 2009.
The Knights (11-2-0, 9-2-0 GLVC) outshot the Tritons (4-9-1, 4-7-1 GLVC) 19-5 for the match, including a 14-2 advantage in regulation. Bellarmine had five players with at least three shots, led by Triplett's four.
Bellarmine had several opportunities on offense, attempting seven corner kicks, compared to Missouri-St. Louis' four. The Knights were called for eight fouls, while the Tritons committed five.
Freshman goalkeeper Amy Kunowski saved three shots to earn her seventh shutout of the season.
Bellarmine returns to Frazier Stadium on Sunday for a match against the University of Southern Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for noon as the seven senior student-athletes and team manager will be honored before the game for their contributions to the women's soccer program.
