No. 11 Greyhounds too much for Volleyball Knights

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Down a set, the Bellarmine Volleyball Team stormed out to a 10-5 second set lead over No. 11 University of Indianapolis on Friday night at the Ruth Lilly Center.  However, the Knights could not hold on, falling in straight sets, 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.

 

Indianapolis took the first set with a dominating presence on the serve.  The Greyhounds capitalized on 12 kills with one error for the set, while the Bellarmine could only muster a 37% sideout conversion percentage.

 

Early In set two, the Knights forced three consecutive attack errors during a four-point rally sparked by Paula Byrns' kill to take a 2-1 advantage.  The Knights also held on to a 15-14 lead before a three-point surge by Indianapolis.

 

Caryn Schoeff assisted on 22 kills for the Knights, while also tying Kelly Krucki for the team lead with four assisted blocks.  The Knights had a 7-3 advantage in total team blocks on the evening.

 

Emily Beckman led all players with nine kills, while Kaitlan Harris contributed eight defensive digs for Bellarmine.

 

The balanced Indianapolis attack was led by Hannah Kelzer's eight kills.  Kourtney Crawford and Kristina Kerrigan contributed seven kills each, while Cheneta Morrison had 35 assists for the victors.

 

Bellarmine continues their road trip on Saturday with a game at St. Joseph's College.  First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
