RENSSELAER, Ind.—The Bellarmine Volleyball Team dropped into a tie for ninth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a four-set loss to St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon at Scharf Fieldhouse.
The Knights (10-8, 4-6 GLVC) fell into a tie with Wisconsin-Parkside with four conference games remaining in the regular season. Both squads stand one game behind eighth place Southern Indiana in the 16-team conference. The top eight teams earn a berth in the 2009 GLVC Volleyball Tournament.
Emily Beckman converted on a match high 13 kills off 40 attack opportunities. She also added four defensive digs and assisted on one of Bellarmine's five blocks.
Caryn Schoeff assisted on 27 of the Knights' 37 kills, and had three assisted blocks. Her eight kills off an error-free 11 attacks were good enough for a .727 kill percentage.
Kaitlin Young tallied a total of 10 digs while playing in only three sets to lead Bellarmine in that category.
St. Joseph's (12-15, 6-4) sprinted out to a 25-14 first set victory in which the Pumas forced Bellarmine into six attack errors, allowing eight kills. The win moved them into a tie for sixth place in the conference with Drury.
Bellarmine will take a brief break from conference action with a midweek match at Kentucky State University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Frankfort, Ky.
