LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine competed with two teams at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic held today at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The teams were split into "gold" and "blue" divisions, with the "gold" division being primarily NCAA Divsion I schools.
In the gold division, Bellarmine finished 19th in the highly competitive field of 35 teams and 302 competitors. The Knights were led by
Carissa Martin and
Cristin Samuels, who both turned in top 100 finishes--Martin 94th and Samuels right on her heels in 95th. Their times over the five kilometer course were 19:07.0 and 19:08.46.

Head Coach
Jim Vargo said that the meet is a great event for Bellarmine because they get to run in front of their home fans, which came out in droves today. However, Vargo said that in a field as big and as strong as this one, runners often break from their regular race plan.
Today's event was a great tune-up for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which Bellarmine will host at this same course on Oct. 24.
Bellarmine's next race will be Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., as the Knights compete at a meet co-hosted by DePauw and Rose Hulman.
