10/9/2009 9:33:41 PM

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine University got two second half goals to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and defeat the Rockhurst Hawks 2-1 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer game tonight at Frazier Stadium.

Less than four minutes into the second period, Bellarmine All-GLVC midfielder Ross Hopkins connected on a penalty kick awarded to the Knights after Rockhurst committed a hand ball inside the  box.  The game-winner came in the 57th minute when Hopkins sent in a cross from the right side into Bradley Barraclough who diverted it to Robert Bowling for the score.

The game was tightly contested throughout and saw 20 penalities whistled and three yellow cards handed out while playing in a near constant rain shower.  Bellarmine picked up their offensive production in the second half and finished outshooting the Hawks 16-11.

Both goalkeepers had plenty of action, with Rockhurst keeper Kyle Clawson picking up nine saves and Bellarmine's Zane Reifsteck collecting seven.

Bellarmine improves to 8-3-1 (6-3 GLVC), while Rockhurst falls to 8-5, 6-3.

The Knights are back in action on Sunday when they host the No. 6 Drury Panthers at 2:30 p.m. in Frazier Stadium.
