LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Volleyball Team pushed the No. 13 Lewis University Flyers to the brink in a pair of sets on Friday night in Knights Hall, but ultimately fell 23-25, 18-25, 23-25.

The Knights accumulated a total of eight blocks in the match, compared to Lewis' seven.  Paula Byrns led Bellarmine with three assisted blocks and one solo block, while Kelly Krucki contributed a pair of solo ones.

Emily Beckman led all Bellarmine players with 11 kills, while Byrns had six.  The Knights could only muster a .144 kill percentage against a tough Lewis team that tallied 40 defensive digs, including ten each by Stephanie Sagat and Ashlee Lindish.

Keeping the margin within four the entire first set, Bellarmine pulled within one at 23-22 after an attack error by Lewis' Kim Richards.  Following a Flyers' timeout, the Knights were able to push it to 24-23 before Richards finished the set with a kill.

Bellarmine committed six fewer attack errors with 16 off 97 total attacks, compared to 22 off Lewis' 106 total attacks.

Setter Caryn Schoeff assisted on 24 Bellarmine points, and added another kill.  Beckman led BU with six defensive digs.

The volleyball team will be back on the court on Saturday with a match against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.  First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Knights Hall.
