LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The No. 20 Bellarmine University women's soccer team got a first half goal from
Stephanie Wilson then held on to eke out a 1-0 victory over Drury University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal game today at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Wilson's game-winner came in the 38th minute after a Drury defender had deflected a header by
Allison Menchak. Wilson collected the rebound and booted it into upper right portion of the goal for the score.
Bellarmine goalkeeper
Amy Kunowski went the distance to record the shutout accented by two well-played saves. The Panthers' keeper, Jessie Sanderson, collected seven saves on the afternoon but was saddled with the loss, nonetheless.
The Knights won this game in a very similar fashion to most of their victories this year--limiting their opponents' scoring opportunities while scratching out just enough offense to get shots. The Panthers could only manage two shots on goal and nine total shots, while Bellarmine shot 12 times, eight on goal.
The win--Bellarmine's ninth of the season by a 1-0 score--advances the Knights to the GLVC semifinals where they will face Quincy University on Friday, Nov. 6 in a game hosted by Northern Kentucky University. Game time has not yet been announced.
Bellarmine improves to 13-2-1 on the season while Drury falls to 13-6.
