FRANKFORT, Ky.--The Bellarmine University women's basketball team ran past the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State 76-62 in the season opener for both schools tonight in the Exum Center in Frankfort.
Bellarmine was led by senior Brittany Edelen, who registered a double double with 22 points and 14 boards in her first regular season game as a Knight after transferring from Kentucky. Sophomore guard Allison Matheis also reached double figures with a strong second half performance to total 17 for the game.
The Knights shot just 37.9 percent for the game, but held Kentucky State to just 34.8 percent shooting and outrebounded the home team 56-36.
Kentucky State was led by Jessica Vaughn, who scored 18, and Shana McCombs tallied 17.
Bellarmine (1-0) is back in action tomorrow tonight, when they have their home opener against Wilberforce University at 7 p.m.
