Hicks inks two Kentucky softball standouts

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Bellarmine University Softball Coach Renee Hicks has announced the signing of two Kentucky softball standouts.  Erin Sireno (Meade County High School) and Taber Lewis (Scott County High School) have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period and will join the Knights softball team for their 2010-2011 campaign.

Sireno plays outfield and third base in high school is expected to play primarily in the outfield for the Knights. Sireno highlighted her junior year with a .347 batting average (.500 slugging percentage) and .958 fielding percentage. As a junior, She was chosen for All-42nd District honors, All-3rd Region honors, and was voted sectional player of the year. She also participated in the junior East/West All-Star game. Sireno was a member of the Louisville Lady Sluggers travel team from 2004-2006 and presently is a member of the Louisville Stunners summer softball team.

Lewis is a 5-6 catcher and utility player who has helped lead Scott County High School to three district championships (2007-2009), and two regional championships (2007-2008) in her first three years. Last year, Lewis had a batting average of .333, slugging percentage of .420, and a fielding percentage of .995 in 26 games. Lewis competed in the 2009 East-West All-Star game where she received the Mark O'Brian (Sportsmanship) Award. She also competed in the USSSA World Series 2007.

“Both players are going to be tremendous additions to our program,” said Bellarmine Head Softball Coach Renee Hicks. “They should add depth and offensive power to our team.”
