Knights bow to Timberwolves 71-56 in GLIAC-GLVC Challenge

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.--The Bellarmine Knights women's basketball team lost its second game in less than 24 hours this afternoon falling to Northwood (MI) University 71-56 in the GLIAC-GLVC Challenge being hosted by Lake Superior State.

The game was closely contested in the first half as neither team could find their shooting touch, and the teams went to the locker rooms tied 29-29 at the half.  Bellarmine (8-3) shot just 36.1 percent in the opening period, which was better than the Timberwolves' 35.3 percent.

In the second half, Northwood heated up and shot 55.6 percent in the second stanza. Meanwhile Bellarmine's shooting woes only worsened as the Knights struggled to just nine of 31 shooting (29%)after the break.  The Timberwolves rode the better shooting to a big lead, enjoying 17-point cushion at 66-49 with 5:43 remaining. 

Northwood (5-4) was paced by Karlie LeRoy, who led all scorers with 27.  Brittany Edelen was the only Bellarmine player to reach double figures, scoring 15 in the losing effort.

Bellarmine returns to the friendly confines of Knights Hall on Jan. 2, when they will face Wisconsin-Parkside in their conference home opener at 5:45 p.m.  (The start time represents a change from the originally release start time of 1 p.m.)
