Women’s basketball pulls out 80-77 win in OT

OWENSBORO, Ky.—Allison Osen's pair of free throws with eight seconds left in overtime iced a 80-77 victory for the Bellarmine women's basketball team over Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday evening at the Sportscenter.

Melissa Fitz sent the game into overtime tied at 67 on a three-pointer from the top of the key with five seconds remaining.  The shot capped a whirlwind stretch in which the Knights battled back from a one possession deficit for the last four minutes of regulation.

The Knights (5-1, 1-1 GLVC) shot 9-9 from the free throw line in the extra frame.  Kylie Brady led the Knights in scoring with 19 points to go with her four rebounds and three assists.  Five Bellarmine players scored in double figures on the evening.

Brittany Edelen secured nine rebounds and scored 14 of her own before fouling out with 2:37 remaining in regulation and Bellarmine trailing 61-60. 

Bellarmine stormed out to a 13-4 advantage to begin the contest, but Panthers to scored seemingly at will inside, with 20 points in the paint as they came back to take a 32-29 halftime advantage. 

The Panthers (3-3, 0-1 GLVC) were led by Katie Behrens' 18 points off 10-12 shooting from the charity stripe.  She and Amanda Harnist led the squad in rebounds with nine apiece.

The Knights next proceed into their break for final examinations before returning to the court on Thursday, Dec. 17 with a game at Oakland City University.  Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
