LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 28, 2009)--Bellarmine University senior Michael Thompson has been named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) 2009 All-America team. The right-handed starting pitcher from Newburgh, Ind., was named to the second team.

Thompson, a graduate of Castle High School, finished the season with an 8-2 record and a 2.84 earned run average. He was third nationally and recorded a school record with 118 strikeouts on the season. Thompson leaves Bellarmine as the career leader in strikeouts and innings pitched.

Other post season awards garnered by Thompson include being named as Great Lakes Valley Conference and Midwest Region "Pitcher of the Year," earning first team all conference and all region honors along the way. He also was named to the Daktronics All-America team.
