INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 2, 2009)--The Bellarmine University women's track team finished fourth, and the men's team finished 6th at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track Field Championships held today and yesterday on the campus of IUPU-Indianapolis.
In today's competition, the women were led by Katie Hickey, who picked up two runner-up finishes in the 1,500 meters and the 3,000 meters, running NCAA provisional times in both events.
Junior Cristin Samuels scored Bellarmine's only event victory of the meet by taking first in the 5,000 meters. Right on her heels for second in that event was teammate Meghan Shagena.
Other top performances included Carissa Martin's second place finish in the 800 meters and Camila Aramburuf's runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles.
On the men's side, Elliot Mattingly garnered a third place in the discus, as did Jason Thornsberry in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
