Freshmen stake Bellarmine to lead at Transy Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky.--Bellarmine freshmen Bryan Ratterman and David Shearn led the way as the Bellarmine golf team took a 4-shot lead midway through the Transylvania Invitational being held at the University of Kentucky Club. The Knights shot an opening round 296 in the 36-hole event.
Ratterman holds the lead after firing a 1-under 71, and Shearn is tied for second one shot back at 72. Bellarmine junior Jerred McCarty carded a 76 while seniors Doug Wilkinson and Brooks Herrick both shot 77.
In the team competition, Transylvania is in second with a 300, with Rhodes another shot back at 301. Centre and Franklin round out the team top five with scores of 304 and 308.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes tomorrow.
