INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Bellarmine freshman Will Maddox's header in the 86th minute over keeper Justin Roberts gave the Knights a 3-2 win over the University of Indianapolis on Friday evening.
Maddox's first collegiate goal came as a loose ball inside the box was kicked to him by Ross Hopkins. Hopkins also assisted the first Bellarmine goal in the 56th minute with a cross from the right touch line into the box that was headed in by Bradley Ash.
Indianapolis' Bobby Adkins had a pair of goals on the evening. His first gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute with a rebound shot that followed Max Marsh's first attempt on goal. His second occurred in the 57th minute on a long distance shot that escaped the clutches of Bellarmine keeper Zane Reifsteck.
The Knights took their first lead of the contest in the 57th minute when freshman Robert Bowling netted his first collegiate goal by outrunning all defenders and sliding a shot past the keeper.
Reifsteck saved three shots on goal, while all three of Roberts's shots faced went past him. Indianapolis outshot the Knights 13-9, and had a 7-5 advantage on corner kicks.
Bellarmine (4-1-1) returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon against St. Joseph's College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
