LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine field hockey team split in their games against Kenyon College and Rhodes College today at Frazier Stadium on Bellarmine's campus.  In the day game, Bellarmine overwhelmed the Ladies of Kenyon in a 4-1 decision.  In the nightcap, Bellarmine lost 5-4 after holding a 4-1 halftime decision.

On the day, Bellarmine's Ellen West and Lauren Schmeing recorded three goals apiece to lead the Knights' offensive attack.  Defensively, Katie Lange played all 140 minutes in goal for the Knights and recorded 13 saves on the day, and Lillian Seitz picked up a defensive save.

The day game, which had a noon start, saw Bellarmine in control most of the way, outshooting Kenyon 25-10.  The Ladies (1-5) got solid play in the cage today where goalkeepers Jenna Klein and Elizabeth Flynn combined for 11 saves.

In Bellarmine's second game of the day, the Knights got off to a great start and held a 4-1 lead at halftime as Christina Bowman scored on a penalty corner after time had expired in the first period. The second half Rhodes (2-1) was the aggressor and held offensive possession most of the final 35 minutes. The statistics reflect the story on the field: a game consisting of two totally different halves. In the opening period the Knights outshot the Lynx 11-4, but in the second half Rhodes held the advantage 15-5.  In penalty corners, Bellarmine held an 8-2 edge in the first half while the Lynx had 10 second half corners to Bellarmine's one.

With their split today, the Knights move to 4-4 on the season.  Next up for Bellarmine is a 2 p.m. matchup tomorrow against Denison.
