LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine's Cassi Dalyrymple scored 3:40 into the "sudden victory" period to propel the Knights field hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Denison University today in a rain-soaked Frazier Stadium.
Denison's Kelsey Flowers got an unassisted shot past Bellarmine goalkeeper
Katie Lange with just 1:16 remaining in regulation to force the overtime period.
The game was close throughout and was scoreless until the Big Red's Molly McCue recovered a ball that Bellarmine's Lange had just saved and put in the cage with just 2:17 left in the first half.
After halftime, both the precipitation and the scoring picked up rather quickly. Bellarmine's
Natalie Perry tied the game with goal off a nice pass from teammate
Ceit Love in the game's 43rd minute as a heavy downpour fell on Janet A. and Joseph P. Clayton Field. Less than a minute later,
Emily West gave the Knights their first lead of the game when she scored on a
Lauren Schmeing assist.
The Big Red tied it three and half minutes later when Meg Cronin lifted a shot over Lange for the goal.
Ellen West scored Bellarmine's final goal in regulation with 5:01 remaining.
Bellarmine improved to 5-4 on the season while Denison dropped to 5-4.
The Knights are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Greencastle, Ind., for a game against DePauw.
