ST. LOUIS--After defeating Lindenwood yesterday, Bellarmine University's field hockey team made it a perfect two for two in the recent road swing into the St. Louis area by turning back St. Louis University 4-3 in overtime today in Anheuser-Busch Field. The Knights' Emily West slapped in the game winner from 25 feet off a long pass from the right side 3:32 into the overtime period for the win.
Emily West also had the first goal of the game 24 minutes into the game off a penalty corner and was assisted by Lauren Schmeing. Ellen West also had two goals, both being in the second half.
The Knights held advantages in both penalty corners (6-4) and saves (8-3) for the game with St. Louis having the edge in total shots (14-8).
This game marks the first time Bellarmine has ever beaten St. Louis University in field hockey and the second time the Knights have beaten a Division I team this year, the other being Robert Morris University. The win moves Bellarmine to 7-5 on the season and drops St. Louis to 1-7.
The Knights take the turf again next Sunday, Oct. 4 against Lindenwood University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. The whistle will blow to start play at 11 a.m.
