Bellarmine men's tennis competes in ITA tourney

MIDLAND, MI--The men's tennis team competed in the Wilson/ITA Great Lakes Men's Division II Championship hosted by Northwood University this past weekend.
Senior Nate Matthews showed promise by making it to the second round of the tournament before falling in a hard fought match to a Lake Superior State's No. 10-seeded Razvan Mag (7-5, 6-2).
"We will use this tournament as a motivating factor just as we did last year," said Bellarmine Head Men's Tennis Coach Todd Murphy. "This tourney allows us to see where we are right now and what we will have to do to meet our goal of qualifying for a NCAA tourney."
In the doubles portion of the tournament, Murphy said the team of Tyler Worley and Paul Clark played well despite losing 8-4 to Ryan Diebold/Jeff Globertson of Grand Valley State. "Paul and Tyler had break chances to tie the score but just couldn't convert," Murphy said.
The Knights kick off their spring schedule on Mar. 27 as they host a match against Southern Indiana at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
