EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The Bellarmine Women's and Men's Cross Country teams opened with second and third place finishes in their season-opening meet at the USI Stegemoller Classic in Evansville, Ind.
Southern Indiana won the women's competition with a team time of 1:12:49. Bellarmine's top finisher was sophomore Carissa Martin, who finished sixth with a time of 15:11. Rend Lake and St. Mary-Of-The-Woods also competed.
Mary Ballinger of Southern Indiana won the individual crown with a time of 13:51. Also finishing in the top ten for Bellarmine was junior Meghan Shagena with a time of 15:16.
Rend Lake won the men's meet as three of their five runners finished in the top five of the field for a final team time of 1:32:59. Bellarmine earned third place with a team time of 1:36:03. Sophomore Jordan Parayil was their top finisher with a time of 18:49. The individual winner of the meet for the men was Stephen Sambu from Rend Lake with a time of 17:54.
The Cross Country team will run again Saturday, Sept. Sept. 12 in the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati at 9 a.m.
