LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University women's basketball team won its conference home opener tonight in Knights Hall, handing the University of Wisconsin-Parkside an 80-69 defeat.

Bellarmine improved to 9-3, 2-1 GLVC, while the Rangers fell to 10-2, 2-1 GLVC.

The Knights got another big game from Brittany Edelen, who scored a career high 27 points.  The senior transfer from the University of Kentucky hit 11 of 17 shots and converted five of six free throws on the night.

Bellarmine also got a big lift from sophomore Kylie Brady, who totaled 20 points.  The Elizabethtown native proved to be solid from the line as she hit 11 of 14 free throws to help preserve the victory for Bellarmine.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which is coached by former University of Louisville player Jenny Knight Kenesie, came in riding an eight game winning streak and were leading the North Division of the GLVC.

Bellarmine controlled the game from the outset, with the Rangers only holding one lead at 2-0. The Knights showed their opponents a little wrinkle, as Coach David Smith employed a zone defense for one of the few times in his coaching tenure at Bellarmine.

The ploy seemed to work, as Bellarmine held Parkside to just 32 percent shooting in the first half as the Knights moved out to a 40-26 lead at half.

After the break, the visitors trimmed the lead to just five, but Bellarmine held off the comeback and extended their coming down the stretch to earn the 11-point win.

The Knights return to action on Monday, Jan. 4, as they host the Lewis Flyers at 5:45 p.m.
