LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University women's soocer team notched a 3-2 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Maryville University this afternoon in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The Knights got a goal apiece from
Stephanie Wilson (Louisville, Ky., Assumption ),
Abby Schuhmann (Louisville, Ky., Assumption), and
Lauren Boyd (LaGrange, Ky., Oldham County) while the Saints had to settle for two long range shot for their goals.
Bellarmine broke out on top in the 19th minute as Wilson connected off an
Alissa Reuther (Villa Hills, Ky., Notre Dame Academy) cross. The Knights extended the lead to 2-0 when Schuhmann converted a cross from
Brianna Simmons (Prospect, Ky., North Oldham) off a free kick.
The Saints cut the lead to 2-1 just before the end of the first half as Sam Poteet converted a direct kick from 25 yards out.
After the break Bellarmine forged a 3-1 lead as Boyd collected a loose ball and rocketed a shot from 30 yards out.
Maryville's Alex Reis ended the game's scoring with a deep shot from the left side off a pace from Calli Anderson.
The Knights owned an 11-8 shot advantage, and Bellarmine goalkeeper
Amy Kunowski (Milwaukee, Wis., Greendale)recorded six saves to help seal the win.
Bellarmine improves to 8-4-1, 7-3-1 GLVC. The Saints fall to 2-9-2, 2-8-1 GLVC.
The Knights return to action Sunday when they take on Missouri S & T in the final home game of the season. Game is scheduled for noon.
