LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University volleyball team toppled a 20-year old school record by winning their ninth consecutive match in four sets over the Georgetown College Tigers on Tuesday night in Knights Hall.

The previous record of eight wins was achieved in 1990 and concluded with a three-set win over Youngstown State in a match played in Gannon, Pa. on Nov. 9.

Krista Gibson led the Bellarmine attack with 19 kills, one shy of her career high set just over a week ago in a five-set match against Indianapolis.

Senior Emily Beckman achieved another double-double, her 13th of the season, with 14 kills and 15 defensive digs on the evening to go with one assisted block.  Fellow senior Kaitlan Harris recorded 20 digs and zero return errors in the libero position.

“Our seniors are playing very consistently now,” Bellarmine Head Coach Dan Palmer said following the match.  “They have become mature volleyball players, and their leadership is keeping everyone else focused.”

Bailey BredenbeckCorp supplied 50 assists on 62 Bellarmine kills, while tallying nine digs.  Kaitlin Young was the other Knight with double digit digs, finishing with 10.

Paula Byrns provided aggressive defensive play with three assisted blocks, while Lauryn Hyman dished out four assists.

“We went up against a very good team who played terrific defense,” Palmer said of the Tigers.  “We'll be able to use this momentum for an important weekend.”

Bellarmine (17-8) concludes regular season play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this weekend.  First up is a match against Missouri S&T on Friday night at Knights Hall.  First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
