LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine women's tennis team posted a 5-4 upset over nationally ranked Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon at Bellarmine's Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
"It took a great effort from top to bottom for us to beat a team as talented as Michigan Tech,” said Bellarmine Coach John Mican.
Freshmen Abby Day and Hannah-Rose Hagan came up big for the Knights, posting three set wins at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions. “(Day and Hagan) played with such heart, each winning their singles matches in three tough sets after they both played outstanding in their doubles matches,” Mican said.
Emily Roebker ran her singles winning streak to four matches also winning a tough three setter.
Coach Mican said even the losses on the day were well played. “Becca Porter and Sarah Roebker both played incredible singles matches, albeit in a losing effort, but their determination inspired the other players in their singles matches.” After being down 5-0 in the second set, Porter rallied back against the region's No. 5-ranked player before falling 7-5.
