Senior Brittany Edelen's strong second half helped spark the Knights in the second half

Edelen's double double leads BU over Saints 87-69

LOUISVILLE, Ky – Brittany Edelen's double-double this afternoon helped propel the Knights to an 87-69 victory over a very physical Maryville Saints team in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest this afternoon in Knights Hall.

Edelen sparked Bellarmine to a 23-6 run to start the first seven minutes of the second half that extended their lead from seven at the break to 24 with 13:39 left to play in the game. The Saints could never get any closer than 14 as the Knight's finished out the game strongly.

The Knights shot a hot 48 percent from behind the 3- point line, hitting 10 of 21 treys on the game.

Three players scored in double-digits tonight with Edelen leading the pack with 25.  Allison Matheis was just one off her career high with 19, and Melissa Fitz tallied 13 for the Knights. Edelen also yanked down 14 rebounds tying a career high, while stuffing two shots and dishing out an assist.

“Brittany really showed her athletic ability today,” Coach David Smith said after the game, “When she plays to her potential she is a tough player.”

Jalissa Chatlos also recorded a solid performance scoring nine points, pulling down nine rebounds, dishing put three assists and stealing the ball three times.

“Jalissa has really developed into a fine player this year”, Coach Smith said after the game, “She was not even starting at the beginning of the year, it just shows her ability to learn and get better.”

Abby Duethman led the Saints this afternoon with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.

This win improves Bellarmine to 14-9, (7-7 GLVC), while moving to 10-1 in Knights Hall on the season. The Saints slide to 5-17, (3-11 GLVC).

Bellarmine returns to action next Thursday Feb. 11 to take on the Norse of Northern Kentucky University at Knights Hall. Tip is set for 5:45 p.m.
