EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The Bellarmine University baseball team banged out 14 hits and took advantage of four Southern Indiana errors to defeat the No. 19 Screaming Eagles 7-4 in a game that is considered a non-conference game despite both teams being in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Second baseman John Lyons led a balanced Bellarmine attack by going 3-for-4 and knocking in a run. His partner in the middle infield, shortstop Patrick Brady, contributed two hits with one being a solo homer to lead off the sixth inning.

The game started out looking like a pitchers' duel with the game's first run coming in the bottom of the fourth inning as USI scratched out a run on two hits. Bellarmine answered in the top of the fifth as Kal Scheler drove home Lyons, who had singled and advanced to second on a balk.

After Brady gave the Knights a 2-1 lead, Bellarmine gave up three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the sixth. The Screaming Eagles were helped along in the inning by three walks, two hit batsmen, and an error.

Bellarmine got a run back in the seventh as Lyons and Chris Wiedmar each doubled.  The Knights then took the lead for good in the eighth by scoring three unearned runs to make the score 6-4, and added an insurance run in the ninth to make the final score 7-4.

Bellarmine improves to 7-10 while USI falls to 9-5.

Next up for the Knights is a weekend road trip to face GLVC foes Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis.
