LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University softball team shut out the Rockhurst Hawks in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6, as the Knights win their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener 7-0 and claim the second game by a count of 9-0.
Sophomore pitcher
Amanda Meyer hurled a complete game shutout for the Knights in the first game, striking out seven and allowing just one hit. Bellarmine also was strong defensively, not committing an error while Rockhurst helped the Bellarmine cause with six miscues.
Freshman
Mariya Kobayashi shined in the first game and went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and
Jordan Basham fired a double to start the third inning to knock in a run.
In game two, junior pitcher
Casey Willard also threw a one-hit shutout and struck out nine while allowing just one walk. Offensively, the second game went just as well with four Knights' players (
Emily O'Bryan,
Lauren Summe, Basham, and
Megan Murdoch ) having multi-hit games. Summe and Basham had the big hits when Summe doubled to left-center, and Basham launched another double into right-center to bring Summe home.
Bellarmine improves to 8-10 (2-0 GLVC) on the season, while the Hawks fall to 0-7, 0-4.
