LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University baseball team swept the first two games of the weekend series against the Missouri University of Science and Technology, 5-2 in nine innings, and 8-6 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Knights Field.

Left fielder Braxton Graven's two-RBI single up the middle got the Knights on the board in the first inning of Game One.  That was followed an inning later when third baseman Chris Wiedmar smacked his fourth homerun of 2010 over the left field fence, giving the Knights a 4-0 lead.

Bellarmine starting pitcher Jason Sterrett pitched a masterful seven complete innings, allowing two earned runs off five hits, while striking out five Missouri S&T batters.  Closer Cory Thomas picked up his fourth save of the season after allowing one hit in the ninth inning.

Graven was the only Bellarmine player with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4.  First baseman Nick Riganti gave the Knights an insurance run in the eighth inning off a fielder's choice to the pitcher, scoring shortstop Mike Morrissette from third base.

Game Two saw the Knights take a commanding 8-1 lead into the seventh and final inning.  However, Missouri S&T exploded for five runs in the frame before Thomas recorded the final out of the ballgame.  Graven started the game on the mound, and allowed just one earned run and struck out six in 6.2 innings of work.

Designated hitter David Weinstein went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in.  Defensive replacement Marty Roberts roped an RBI double in the sixth to cap off the five-run frame for Bellarmine.

The Knights return to the field on Sunday to close out the weekend series with another doubleheader against the Miners.  First pitch is scheduled for noon at Knights Field.
