LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University baseball team earned a clean sweep of the weekend series against the Missouri University of Science and Technology by winning both games of their doubleheader on Sunday,12-4 in seven innings and 11-7 in nine innings.  The Knights beat the Miners 5-2 in nine innings and 8-6 in seven innings on Saturday.  The series took place at Knights Field on the campus of Bellarmine University.

With their seventh consecutive victory, the Knights move to 21-19 overall and moved their GLVC record to 10-8.  The Miners fall to 12-25, 9-11.

The Knights had a slow start to game one, committing two errors in the top of the first inning and falling behind 3-0 after one and a half innings.

Bellamrine came back with two in the bottom of the second, and center fielder Patrick Brady belted an opposite field homer--his 10th home run of the season--in the third inning to tie the game at three apiece.

After both teams added a run in the fourth, Bellarmine took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Coach Deron Spink called catcher Zach Blanchard off the bench to hit with the bases loaded, and the move paid huge dividends as the Missouri native doubled off the left field fence and cleared the bases for three RBI to give the Knights a 7-4 lead.

Bellarmine exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by designated hitter David Weinstein's 3-run homer to dead center field.

Pitcher Matt Bayes was credited with the win for Bellarmine, bringing his record to 5-2.  Cory Thomas earned the save, his sixth of the season.

The Knights started off game two with a bang, scoring five runs off six hits in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.

After the Miners scratched out lone runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings to claw back into contention, Coach Spink again dialed up the right substitution at the right time as
Anton Garcia entered in the seventh to bat with the bases loaded, and his single up the middle brought in two runs for Bellarmine to give the Knights a 9-4 lead.

The Knights added two more runs in the eighth, and S&T put up three in the top of the ninth to make the final 11-7.

Pitcher Aaron Deatherage got the win for game two, bringing his record to 3-6.  Samuel Robinson worked the final two and a third innings to earn his third save of the season.

Third baseman Chris Weidmar led the Knights four hits in seven at bats for the doubleheader.

The Knights return to the field on Tuesday at Oakland City University.  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
