LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine Knights (15-29, 6-14 GLVC) softball team swept the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State on Wednesday in Frankfort. The Knights only allowed three runs on the day winning the first game 5-1 and running away with the second 7-2.
Game 1: BU 5-KSU 1
The game was quiet until the fourth inning when Lauren Summe smashed a two-run blast over the center field fence. The Knights tallied another run in the fifth by Angel Zimmerman off a Summe single to left field.
Jordan Basham began the charge in the sixth inning rally with a single up the middle. After a Casey Willard walk, Basham advanced to second. Emily O'Bryan singled to right field and a throwing error by the second basemen allowed Basham to score and Willard to advance to third. Emma Raver singled up the right side to continue the rally scoring Willard to stretch their lead to 5-0.
The Knights bats were alive finishing the game with eight hits. Summe recorded three including her homerun in the fourth. Casey Cleary, Angel Zimmerman, Bashem, O'Bryan, and Raver all slapped one.
The Thorobrettes scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a homer by Canetra Ford in the bottom of the sixth.
The Knights prevailed in a 5-1 victory, totaling eight hits and no errors while Kentucky State finished with five hits and three errors.
Willard is awarded the win pitching the entire seven innings, striking out five, while Shenaaz Burrell was given the loss striking out three.

Game 2: BU 7-KSU 2
The Knights continued their hitting spree reaching double-digits with ten hits, to finish the sweep with a 7-2 victory over the Thorobreds.
The Knights jumped out early with Mariya Kobayashi crossing the plate off a Summe double down the left-field line. The Knights cooled off and let KSU tie it in third and eventually take the lead in fourth before waking up their bats in the fifth inning for a late game rally. The Knights scored six runs on six hits in the final three innings to come away with the victory 7-2.
Three players registered multiple hits for the second game with Summe, Basham and Megan Murdoch each slapping two. Kobayashi, O'Bryan, Zimmerman and Raver each recorded one.
Bellarmine finished with seven runs on 10 hits, with Kentucky State making the rounds twice, slapping six hits, but having eight errors in the game.
Amanda Meyer (8-8) was awarded the win after pitching the full game striking out eight batters. Lorna Villamar receives the loss going the entire seven innings totaling four walks and three strikeouts against 38 faced for the game.

The Knights are back in action this Saturday, April 18 in a double-header against the Pumas of St. Joseph's (21-14, 8-11 GLVC).
