RENSSELAER, Ind.--The Bellarmine University baseball team split a doubleheader with Great Lakes Valley Conference foe St. Joseph's for the second day in a row.  The Knights got a 6-5 victory to open the day, but fell 11-7 in the finale.

In game one, Bellarmine struck first by plating a single run in the top of the second as John Lyons singled home David Weinstein.

The Pumas came back to take the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third, but the Knights exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth as Lyons, Kalvin Scheler, Mike Morrissette, and Braxton Graven all recorded hits.

St. Joseph's climbed back in the game with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Bellarmine went to the bottom of the seventh (in a game scheduled for seven) clinging to a 6-5 lead.  After reliever Samuel Robinson recorded the first out of the inning, Bellarmine called on freshman Cory Thomas to close the game.  The Seymour, Indiana native quickly surrendered a pair of hits and an intentional walk to load the bases. He got out of the jam by getting a strike out and a ground out to  record his 10th save of the year.

Freshman starting pitcher Phil Forbis picked up the win to move to 4-3 on the season.

In game two, the Knights opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Graven drove in Scheler and Patrick Brady. After St. Joe's came back to tie it, Bellarmine again took a two-run lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.

The fireworks came in the bottom of the fifth, however, as the Pumas lit up the scoreboard with seven runs on seven hits and a pair of walks to give St. Joe's a 9-4 lead.

The Pumas tacked on two more in the bottom of the eighth to go up 11-4.  The Knights refused to go quietly, and scored three times in the top of the ninth to make the final score 11-7.

Brady and Graven were the offensive leader for the Knights in the second game. Brady went 4-for-5, and Graven was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.

Kyle Switalski, pitching in relief of starter Jason Sterrett, took the loss for the Knights.

Bellarmine now stands 25-21 on the season with a GLVC record of 12-10.  The Pumas share the 12-10 conference mark with the Knights, but boast an overall record of 23-16.

Bellarmine now gets a few days off before closing their home season with a 4-game series with Lewis on Saturday and Sunday.
