LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine baseball team honored its seven-member senior class following their 10-7 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Lewis University at a game played at St. Xavier High School

Chris Wiedmar, one of the seven seniors, helped lift his club to the conference victory by going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. He provided the big blow in the 5-run second inning by hitting a 3-run homer on a smash that cleared the scoreboard in left center field.

The Flyers and the Knights combined for 30 hits in the game, which saw all 17 runs scored between the second and seventh innings.

Bellarmine freshman Jason Sterrett got the start for the Knights and worked five and a third to pick up his fourth win of the season. Matt Bayes threw two and a third in relief before giving way to Cory Thomas, who worked the final inning and a third to record his conference-leading 11th save of the year.

In addition to Wiedmar, Bellarmine was led offensively by second baseman John Lyons who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two driven in. Catcher Zach Blanchard added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI.

The Knights improve to 27-21, 14-10 GLVC. Lewis falls to 24-23, 13-12.

After the game, Bellarmine recognized its seven seniors: Patrick Brady, Anthony Fazi, Anton Garcia, Nick Riganti, Marty Roberts, Kyle Switalski, and Wiedmar.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended after six and a half innings with the Flyers holding a 13-7 advantage in the game scheduled for seven innings. The game will be completed tomorrow prior to the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the Knights and Flyers. Game time is TBA.
