LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University softball team split a doubleheader with Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Maryville today at Knights Field, winning game one 3-1 and falling 3-2 in the second game.
Bellarmine moves to 13-25 (6-10 GLVC) on the season, and the Saints now stand 10-21 (2-12 GLVC).
GAME 1
Bellarmine, which was batting first because the game was a make-up of a scheduled Maryville home game, scratched out a run in the top of the first when leadoff batter Emma Raver reached on error, stole second, advanced on a sacrifice then came home on the second Saints error of the inning.
The game remained 1-0 until the Knights returned the favor of an unearned run in the fifth as Maryville tied the game 1-1 without the benefit of a base hit.
The Knights secured the win in the top of the sixth as both Lauren Summe and Jordan Basham jacked solo homers to put Bellarmine up 3-1.
Starting pitcher Amanda Meyer closed out the game to record the complete game victory while giving up just four hits and striking out seven.

GAME 2
The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Basham connected on another homer, this time with a runner aboard, in the top of the first.
The offense then took a break until the Saints finally broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the sixth when the first two batters reached on error and later scored on a sacrifice fly and a base hit.
After the Knights failed to score despite having runners at second and third in the top of the seventh, Maryville faced their last scheduled at bat tied 2-2. The Saints' Sarah Graham opened the inning with a single to left but reached third after an error. Brittany Ponder brought in the winning run as she successfully bunted on the squeeze play.
Casey Willard pitched effectively for the Knights, but was the hard-luck loser after giving up three unearned runs.

The Knights hit the road for their next game, a Saturday matchup at Northern Kentucky.
