HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Bellarmine University volleyball team closed out this weekend's Northern Kentucky Tournament with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-15 loss to Wheeling Jesuit University on Saturday afternoon at Regents Hall.
The Knights (3-4) ended the two-day event with a 0-3 record, and will hope to bounce back into the winning ways on Wednesday night, when the squad returns to Knights Hall for a match against Oakland City University at 7 p.m.
Kaitlan Harris had a season high 17 defensive digs to lead all players. She also added an assist and service ace.
Emily Beckman took game honors with 15 kills, of which seven occurred in the victorious second set. Lucy Heidrich (11 kills) was the only other Knight with double digit kills on the day.
Down by as many as seven points in the opening set, Bellarmine rallied to minimize the Cardinals' lead to 23-22 before a pair of WJU kills to take the early advantage.
Bellarmine led the fourth set 4-3 early, but Wheeling Jesuit clinched the match quickly in part because of an ensuing 10-3 run the Knights could not battle back from.
Bailey BredenbeckCorp recorded 28 assists for the match with a blistering .824 set percentage.
