LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The No. 23 Bellarmine University men's soccer team rolled over the visiting Urbana Blue Knights 6-0 this afternoon in a non-conference soccer match at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The Bellarmine Knights got another big game from
Bradley Barraclough (Lincoln, England, Lincoln College ) who scored a pair of goals and delivered an assist in just 52 minutes of action. Fellow senior
Ross Hopkins (Skerries, Ireland, Colaiste Ide College ) also had solid numbers for the home team, scoring a goal and picking up two assists while logging just 44 minutes of playing time.
Bellarmine was in control most of the game, and outshot the Blue Knights 17-8 including a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Hopkins got the scoring started for the Knights in the game's 12th minute taking a short pass from Barraclough and beat the Urbana keeper with a shot in the right corner of the goal. Bellarmine took a 2-0 lead into halftime after
Ian Porta (Ballwin, Mo., Marquette) notched his first goal of the season in the 37th minute.
The home team blew the game wide open in the early stages of the second half, scoring three goals in the first six minutes to claim a dominant 5-0 lead. Bellarmine tacked on another goal in the 77th minute to make the final score 6-0.
Sophomore
Matthew Soyka (Racine, Wisc., Case) picked up the win in goal for the Knights, sharing the shutout with
Jake Lagrone (Beavercreek, Ohio, Beavercreek) who played the second half.
Bellarmine improves to 3-0-1 on the season while Urbana slips to 1-2.
This was the final non-conference game for Bellarmine as the remainder of the regular season is exclusively Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Bellarmine's next game is St. Joseph's College, which is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
