LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University women's soccer team cruised to a 3-1 victory this afternoon over non-conference opponent Urbana University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The Bellarmine Knights outshot the Urbana Blue Knights 25-5 on the afternoon, with Bellarmine's
Alissa Reuther (Villa Hills, Ky., Notre Dame Academy)getting off six shots, four on goal. Reuther's second shot of the day found the back of the net, as the senior converted a cross from
Allyson Palmer (Louisville, Ky., Presentation Academy) in the 25th minute to put the Knights up 1-0.
Bellarmine extended their lead to 2-0 with just 3:45 left in the first half when freshman
Reyna Naranjo scored off a pass from
Stephanie Wilson.
After halftme, Bellarmine extended its lead to 3-0 when Palmer scored an unassisted goal. Urbana avoided the shutout when Blue Knights goalkeeper Jackie Gardner booted the ball that went untouched to the opposite end of the field and bounced over the Bellarmine keeper for the score.
The Knights move to 2-2 on the season, while Urbana falls to 0-3-1.
Bellarmine now moves into exclusively Great Lakes Valley Conference play for the remainder of the regular season. The next game for the Knights is Friday, when they host St. Joseph's at 3:55 p.m.
