LOUISVILLE, Ky.—A second half rally propelled the Bellarmine University women's basketball to a 79-74 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night behind 21 points from
Lauren Jones, while
Betsy Goodin poured in a career high 20 of her own.
The Knights (9-6, 4-3 GLVC) fell behind early in the game as the Tritons(6-9, 1-6 GLVC) jumped out to a 13-4 lead just five minutes into the game and led by as many as 12 in the first half.
Plagued by 13 first half turnovers and shooting just 1-11 from behind the arc, Bellarmine went into halftime trailing Missouri-St. Louis 38-29.
Bellarmine made their move minutes into the second half as they went on a 13-1 run, capped by a three pointer by Goodin, to pull within one. The Knights finally took their first lead of the game with just 3:56 left after an old fashioned three pointer by freshman
Kylee Hamilton.
After Missouri-St. Louis answered with a bucket, Bellarmine retook the lead for good on another three pointer by Goodin.
The Knights were clutch from the line as they hit 6-7 free down the stretch. For the game Bellarmine was 31-35 (88.6%) from line compared to just 7-13 for the Tritons.
Missouri-St. Louis was led by 27 points from Caitlyn Moody and also got 20 points from Assumption High School product Kelly Mitchell.
Bellarmine now hits the road as they travel to St. Joseph's on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
