No. 23 Knights too much for Maryville

Loven, Combs propel Bellarmine to 2-0 victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The twenty-third ranked Bellarmine University women's soccer team picked up a Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the visiting Maryville University Saints 2-0 on Friday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

The victory moves Bellarmine's record to 11-2-1 and 10-2 in conference, while Maryville falls to 4-10-1, 4-8 in the GLVC. The tenth conference victory is the most in Bellarmine's program history. The Knights move closer to the school record for total wins in a season, which is 14.

Freshman defender Leah Loven put Bellarmine on the board in the  26th minute, picking up a deflection in the box and beating Saints keeper Jena Casagrande.

The Knights stretched their lead out to 2-0 at 77:16 when Allyson Palmer sent a cross from the left side to freshman McKenzie Combs, who fired it into the goal for her second of the season.

In goal for Bellarmine was Amy Kunowski who improved her record to 11-1-1 and recorded her seventh save of the season, Cassagrande took the loss for Maryville. Statistically, Bellarmine had advantages in  both shots (23-11) and corner kicks (5-2). 
Bellarmine remains in second place in the GLVC standings, one game behind No. 9 Northern Kentucky.

The Knights return to action on Sunday as they host Missouri-St. Louis at noon. After the game, Bellarmine will honor six of their graduating seniors.
