LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University women's tennis team ran their season to record to 3-1 by defeating Campbellsville University 6-3 in a home match at the Sport, Recreation and Fitness Center on Saturday.

Six different Bellarmine players recorded victories on the day, starting at number three doubles, where the "Abbys" (Abby Day and Abby Dorton) picked up an 8-2 victory.

Coach John Mican credited the No. 2 doubles team of Emily Roebker and Jamie Claeys with earning the key victory that propelled the Knights' team. "Emily and Jamie fought back from being down 7-5 and on several occasions were just two points from defeat, before winning 9-7," Mican said.

In singles, Mican said matches 3 through 6 that brought home the victory. Last year's GLVC Player of the Year Rebecca Porter dropped a close 3-set match at No. 1 singles, and Roebker lost a tough singles match at No. 2.  "It was awesome that the rest of the team picked them up with their singles play," Mican said. "This match showed how deep our team is."

Claeys was the one player who recorded both a singles and doubles win.

"Campbellsville made us fight very hard to earn this team win," Mican said.

Bellarmine's next action comes on Feb. 18 when the Knights host Georgetown College.
