Screaming Eagles too much for the Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky.---The Bellarmine University women's basketball could not overcome a hot shooting University of Southern Indiana team as the Knights fell 53-76 in Knights Hall on Thursday night.

Bellarmine (11-14, 6-11 GLVC) hung tough in the opening moments as the teams traded baskets until the first media timeout, but the Screaming Eagles (16-9, took control from there as they went on a 19-6 run during the next six minutes to build a 15 point lead.

Plagued by turnovers and cold shooting, Bellarmine fell behind 22-41 going into the half. The Knights shot just 8-24 (33.3%) while committing 19 turnovers

The Knights came out of the locker room aggressive as they continued to battle the Screaming Eagles, clawing their way back into the game.

Twice Bellarmine cut the lead down to 13, but could not get any closer as Southern Indiana closed out the game on a 13-23 run.

Lauren Jones led the Knights in scoring with 13 points, while Jalissa Chatlos pitched in eight points and a game high 13 rebounds.

The Screaming Eagles shot 32-59 (54.2%) from the field, getting 19 points from Ellen Young.

Bellarmine will return to action on Saturday as they close the regular season against Kentucky Wesleyan, the game is part of homecoming weekend and will tip off at 5:45 p.m.
