LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Continuing their stellar play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Bellarmine University softball team took two games from visiting Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday beating the Panthers 9-0, 5-1 at Knights Field.

GAME 1
Bellarmine(21-9, 10-2 GLVC) took full advantage of costly errors by Kentucky Wesleyan (6-17, 3-9 GLVC) in the opener as they got on the board in the first when Erin Sireno came home after an wild throw by left fielder to prevent Sireno from scoring went wide.

The Knights tacked on three more runs in third inning as Cynthia Brown got all the way to third on a leadoff single when the right fielder misplayed the ball. She would eventually score on a double steal as Angel Zimmerman stole second.

Megan Murdoch would pick up two RBI's in the next at bat as she hit her eighth home run of the season, to tie for team highs. Murdoch's home is Bellarmine's 32nd of the season, far ahead of Drury's 23 for tops in the conference.

Bellarmine would force the game to end in the sixth as they piled on five runs on three more KWC errors. After stealing third base, Casey Cleary would score on the attempted throw out that went over the third basemen's head. The game would end when Angel Zimmerman cleared the bases when she rounded the bases on a misplayed ball by the right fielder to bring home three runs.

Even with the hot bats of the Knights working, pitcher Casey Willard(13-3) gave the visiting team little hope of a victory as she shut down the Panthers going six innings, giving up only three hits with no walks and four strike outs to pick up the victory.

GAME 2
After KWC picked up a run in the top of the first, the Knights struggled early on to figure out pitcher Jordan Vertz as she retired the first nine batters she face.

It was not until Zimmerman led off the fourth inning with a single to right field that Bellarmine had a base runner. She would score on the next batter as Sireno tripled to right field to get the Knights on the board, eventually taking the lead on the next batter with a sac fly by Lauren Summe.

In the fifth, Kentucky Wesleyan threatened a comeback as they put runners on second and third with only one out, but pitcher Amanda Meyer forced two straight groundouts to get out of the jam.

The Knights added more insurance runs in the sixth thanks to another costly error by the Panthers when KWC's Laura Helms dropped a fly ball by Megan Murdoch with one on and two outs that would have ended the inning. The result of the costly mistake was three runs including two on a double to the right center gap by Kaitlyn Morley to bring the game to a 5-1 finish.

Meyer (7-5) would pick up the win for Bellarmine as she went 7.0 innings, giving up only three hits and one earned run, KWC's Vertz (8-2) was tagged with the loss.
