LOUISVILLE, Ky. ---The Bellarmine University men's soccer team welcomed new Great Lakes Valley Conference member William Jewell to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on Sunday and rolled over the Cardinals 5-2.
Forward
Dan Schiavi got the scoring off just a 1:50 into the game when he picked up a pass from
Jordan Beckles in the box and ripped it into the back of the net. From there, William Jewell's Forrest McCurren got back-to-back goals in the 40th and 44th minute to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
That lead would be short lived though as the Cardinals(2-3, 1-3 GLVC) were flagged for a foul in the box with just 45-seconds left in the half resulting in a penalty kick for senior
Jack Binns. WJC goalkeeper Justin Schmidt got his gloves on the PK, but could not corral it as the game was tied going into break.
Putting their offense into full throttle, Bellarmine(4-2,3-1 GLVC) took the lead for good at 54:39 mark when
Jordan Beckles headed in a pass off the foot of Jack Binns.
Sophomore
Connor Brehm got into the action scoring his first goal as a Knight at the 73:06 mark when he lifted a shot over the head of the WJC goalkeeper with Binns getting his second assist on the day. Later, Brehm would break free in the 77th minute for an insurance goal courtesy of a
Jacob Kaye pass.
The win moves Bellarmine into a tie for third place in the GLVC standings with Missouri S&T. The Knights and Miners square off next Friday night in Rolla, Mo., at 8:30 PM.
