FINDLAY, Ohio—The Bellarmine University men's soccer team got big contributions from several freshmen as the Knights blew past the Findlay Oilers 6-0 in a road game this afternoon.
Freshmen
Jacob Kaye,
Shane Mihaljevic,
Dan Schiavi, and
Kai Qualah scored five of the Knights' six goals, and another freshman—
Blake Hunter—played all 90 minutes in goal to pick up the shutout victory.
Bellarmine dominated the game for the entire 90 minutes and outshot the Oilers 20-3.
Kaye got the scoring started in the 35th minute, getting an assist from
Matt Odem and converting from about five yards out. Qualah made it 2-0 just before halftime as Odem and
Justin Klenke were credited with a double assist.
Bellarmine continued to roll along in the second period extending the lead to 4-0 in the 69th minute when Schiavi drilled a shot into the top right corner of the goal from about 30 yards out. The Knights kept up the pressure throughout and made the final 6-0 when
Robert Bowling scored with just 2:39 remaining in the contest.
Bellarmine improves to 1-1 on the season while Findlay drops to 0-2.
The Knights open their home schedule on Friday with a GLVC contest against the University of Southern Indiana. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
