LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine University women's soccer player
Abby Schuhmann—already the most decorated player in school history-- needs to make space in her trophy case for another honor as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has elected the senior to the Scholar All America Team.
Schuhmann was named to the NSCAA's College Division's Scholar All America Third Team as a defender. She is just one of 13 Division II women's players to earn both All American and Scholar All America honors in 2011-12.
Criteria for “Scholar All American” selection includes having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), starting in more than 50 percent of all games and making significant contributions to the team; and being a junior or higher in academic standing.
The NSCAA national selection committee makes final determination for student-athletes' inclusion on one of the three Scholar All American Teams based on both academic and athletic accomplishments.
As team captain in 2011, Schuhmann led the Knights to one of the best seasons in school history with a 16-3-3 record, an appearance in the NCAA tournament, and a final national ranking of No. 20. The Assumption High School alumna is a 3-time All America selection and carries a 3.3 grade point average and is scheduled to graduate this May with a degree in business administration.
