LOUISVILLE, Ky. ---- The Bellarmine University men's and women's track field teams are off to a blazing start in the indoor season as senior Carissa Martin and junior Seth Sigler have both been named Great Lakes Valley Indoor Track Athletes of the Week.

Over the weekend Martin led the Knights at the Gladstein Invite hosted by Indiana University. At the meet, she out-paced a field of nearly 40 athletes to claim the 'open' 800 meter race with a time of 2:17.20. Martin's finish was a personal best, and lowered a school record that she had already owned. Martin's time also lands her at the top of the GLVC in this event.

Sigler, led a separate Bellarmine charge at the Little Giant Invite hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville over the weekend. Sigler won the 60 meter hurdles with a NCAA Provisional time of 8.16. His time was also a personal best, lowering his own school record as well.

As a team both the men's and women's have been excelling in the first two weekends of the season. In the first in-season regional rankings, put out by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Bellarmine's men's team is ranked seventh in the Midwest Region and second in the GLVC behind Indianapolis. On the women's side, the Knights are also ranked second in the GLVC behind Lewis, but eighth in the region.

The Knights will split the team up this weekend traveling to three separate meets. The bulk of the team will compete at the Engineer Invitational hosted at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology while runners athletes will compete at the IU Relays in Bloomington, Ind. A handful of other athletes are scheduled to compete at the Rod McCravy Invite at the University of Kentucky. Other schools scheduled to be at that meet include Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Murray State, Western Kentucky, and Central Florida.
