FRANKLIN, Ind. ---With the temperature in the 40's on Sunday the Bellarmine University women's tennis team heated up the courts in Franklin, Ind to secure an 8-1 win over the Franklin College Grizzlies in their last competition of the fall season.
Senior
Hannah-Rose Hagan moved into the number seven spot on Bellarmine's all-time wins list with her 78th and 79th victory, stretching her fall season record to 10-3. Meanwhile,
Evann Waschuk, who teamed with Hagan for the win at number one doubles, also picked up a hard-fought win at the number one singles spot with a 10-8 third set tie-break win. The victory was also Waschuk's tenth win of the fall season.
Freshman
Michelle McFerran picked up a pair of solid wins at number two doubles, pairing up with
Jamie Claeys, and number two singles giving her a team leading 11 wins on the year.
Kelly Hollingsworth,
Abby Day and
Elizabeth Crush closed out the scoring for the Knights with decisive singles wins.
Coach
John Mican was more than pleased with his team's play from top to bottom and added that he feels they will be even better in the spring. "First and foremost these players compete with a lot of heart and determination. I am excited to see how much we will improve in the off-season."
With the fall competition portion of their schedule over Mican sees this as an ideal time to improve, citing the addition of new sports performance coach
Steve Hartman as a huge asset. "Under the guidance of our Coach Hartman this team will be in tip-top shape and ready to compete when we begin our conference schedule."
