DECATUR, Ala.---- In what would turn out to be their final day at the UAH Charger Chillout, the Bellarmine University softball team would split two games as they fell to Florida Tech 2-0 in the open then salvaged a 4-2 win against West Alabama in the finale.
Rain would cause day three of the event to be cancelled as Bellarmine returns from the event with an even 5-5 record.
Game 1: Florida Tech 2 Bellarmine 0
The Bellarmine offense could not get on track for the second straight game as they could only manage four hits on the afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers of Florida Tech scored their first run on a triple by Emily Densem bringing home Erica Tollett.
In the fifth, Bellarmine threatened to take the lead with runners on first and second with two outs. But, the Knights could not capitalize as
Erin Sireno grounded out to the first basemen to end the inning.
Florida Tech would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on and RBI double by Lindsy Dugan.
Freshman
Alicia Miller (1-3) took the loss for Bellarmine after giving up two runs over innings and striking out three. Brianna Barth, an All-South Region selection last season, picked up the win for the anthers registering four strikeouts over 7.0 innings.

West Alabama, which was ranked 14th in the nation in the preseason polls, would load the bases up in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a walk to Stephanie Shoup. With the bases still loaded and just one out senior pitcher
Amanda Meyer would show veteran poise, inducing two straight popups to end the inning with limited damage.
Bellarmine would knot the score up at 1-1 in the top of the second inning as 3B
Madi Ratliff would homer off Tigers' pitcher Brooklyn Phillips. The Knights would add two more runs in the third inning again via the longball as
Megan Murdoch record her second homer in as many days, this time a two-run shot to right center field.
Showing that they still have an explosive offense, the Knights would add another home run in the fourth inning, this time from freshman
Scarlett Powers to take a 3-1 lead. West Alabama would draw within 4-2 in the fifth inning on a double to left field.
West Alabama would threaten in the top of the seventh placing runners on first and second, but Meyer would strike out Angela Arredondo swinging to end the game. Meyer (4-2) would pick up the win, striking out six over 7.0
