LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Back at home after three games on the road, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team will host two Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents this week welcoming in St. Joseph's College on Thursday night, followed by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday.

Dropping both games last weekend, Bellarmine (10-11, 4-9 GLVC) currently sits in sixth place in the GLVC East and tenth overall in the conference. Coach David Smith and the Knights are vigorously trying to move up in the standings as the top eight seeds earn the right to host a first round game in the upcoming conference tournament.

Senior sharpshooter Allison Matheis continues to make her way towards becoming the 25th member of Bellarmine's 1,000 point club. Matheis currently sits at 946 career points and is on pace to reach the milestone later this year. The last member of the women's program to reach the 1,000 point plateau was Dana Beaven during the 2008-09 season.

In Saturday's close loss at Lewis, guard Betsy Goodin came off the bench to score a career-high 23 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the line. Goodin was particularly effective during the second half comeback where she scored 19 of her 23 points.

On the inside, 6-1 Allison Osen has been a steady influence over the past four games, averaging 10.8 points and 7.2 rebounds. The junior from Greenwood, Ind. has been stifling on defense as well, totaling 31 blocks on the year, third most in the conference.

As a team, the defense was missing on Saturday as Lewis shot 29-59 (.492) from the field, the highest against Bellarmine this season. The hot shooting let the Flyers build a 20 point lead in the second half, one that the Knight could not overcome.

Bellarmine will look to get revenge on St. Joseph's College on Thursday, as the Pumas eked out a 73-71 win earlier in the season on a layup by Montrell Mills with four seconds remaining in the game. In that game the Knights did not help themselves out from the free throw line, going just 8-19 (.421) from the charity stripe. Kylie Brady led all scorers with 25 points while Matheis had 22 of her own.

It was a highly competitive contest that saw 11 ties and 13 lead changes with neither team leading by more than four points over the games' final 15 minutes of action. Bellarmine's frontcourt of Osen and freshman Darion Hutchinson was able to control the boards, coming away with 24 rebounds between the two of them, as BU held a 42-32 advantage overall.

Going into the weekend, UIndy (16-5, 10-3) currently is tied with Wisconsin-Parkside for the lead in the GLVC East and feature the GLVC's leading scorer in Kristin Turner (18.5 ppg). Bellarmine was able to hold Turner in check in the teams' prior matchup, as she had only 13 points and committed five turnovers but the Greyhounds knocked down 13 three-pointers in the game on their way to a 71-59 win.

Tip-off for Thursday's showdown with St. Joseph's is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
