LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Showing why they are the fourth ranked team in the nation, the visiting University of Indianapolis Greyhounds swept the Bellarmine University softball team on Saturday afternoon in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games.
Bellarmine(17-15, 8-6 GLVC) drops their third straight while UIndy(24-1, 12-0 GLVC) extends their win streak to a remarkable 20 games.
Game 1: No. 4 UIndy 8, Bellarmine 0 (5 innings)
Game one was a matchup between the power hitting Knights, who have tallied 29 home runs on the season going into the game, and UIndy's Jennifer DeMotte, the reigning NFCA National Pitcher of the Week. It was DeMotte who won that battle though, throwing 5.0 shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out five.
Meanwhile, the Greyhounds took advantage of several miscues by the Knights to plate eight runs in the first five innings to shorten the game. Of the eight runs, four were the result of errors committed by Bellarmine, including a three-run homer by Casey Williamson in the second after an error by freshman
Kayla Padgett extended the inning.
Alicia Miller(8-9) took the loss for the Knights, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing 11 hits and striking out three.
