CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The long ball was flying all day for the Bellarmine University softball team as they swept the host West Georgia Wolves 3-1 and 11-2 on Tuesday afternoon behind five homers in the double header.

After hitting just one home run in their first nine games, Bellarmine (11-8, 3-1 GLVC) has homered 17 times in the last 11 games. Of the 14 runs scored on Tuesday, eight came as a result of a home run.

Game 1: Bellarmine 3 West Georgia 1

Hits were hard to come by for the Knights in the opener as West Georgia's Antoinette Diaz retired nine of the first 12 batters she saw. Meanwhile, the Wolves were able to go ahead 1-0 on Kristen Sheffield's solo home run in the bottom of the second.

Madi Ratliff would put the Knights ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, belting a two-run home run over the left field fence. Bellarmine would add an insurance run in the fifth as senior Lauren Summe hit a solo shot to deep center field to make it 3-1. It is the first home run of the season for Summe, a first basemen from Cincinnati, after knocking out nine homers in 2011.

Alicia Miller (5-4) picked up the win for the Knights, pitching 7.0 innings and giving up eight hits and one walk while striking out one. The freshman is seemingly getting better by the game as she lowers her ERA to 2.31 on the year and is holding opposing batters to just a .250 average.

Diaz takes the loss for West Georgia, giving up five hits over 7.0 innings and striking out eight.

Game 2: Bellarmine 11 West Georgia 2

Megan Murdoch started the fireworks off right away in game two, finding the gap in right center to bring Summe home from second. In the third, Ratliff continued her early season rampage, hitting a three run homer of freshman Shea McInerny to give her a GLVC-leading seven homers on the season.

West Georgia would score one run in the sixth on a Nicole Yancey home run to draw within 4-1. But Bellarmine would leave a lasting impression on the West Georiga pitching staff, exploding for seven runs in the top of the seventh to leave no doubt as to which team had more power.

Murdoch led off the inning with her second home run of the day and 22nd of her career. After a strikeout by Ratliff, freshman Scarlett Powers got in on the fun, homering down the left field line to extend Bellarmine's lead to 6-1.

Abby Lenhart then drew a walk, scoring on Hannah Daunhauer's double to left field. Cynthia Brown would then bring home Daunhauer from second to make the score 9-1. Later in the inning, Summe would bring in her second RBI of the day on a single to right as Murdoch put on the finishing touches by bringing in Summe on a double for Bellarmine's 11th run.

The Wolves would add one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not nearly enough as the Knights won the finale 11-2. Murdoch and Summe each went 4-5 from plate and combined for five runs and five RBIs.

Senior Amanda Meyer (7-4) did her share from the circle, striking out seven while giving up just five hits.
